Event part of larger initiative to cleanup Kinloch, surrounding area

On Oct. 3, volunteers from the Boeing Company (Boeing) and St. Louis Economic Development Partnership (STL Partnership) teamed up for a community cleanup event of Kinloch, Mo., on the streets around Short Park. The event brought in more than 120 volunteers from Boeing as well as members of the community to help clean up.

This cleanup event was part of a larger initiative led by STL Partnership to clean up Kinloch, Mo., and the surrounding area with the goal to end illegal dumping the areas have experienced for decades. Before the latest cleanup event, more than 2.4 million pounds of trash and debris have been removed since cleanup began in March 2025. That includes over 7,000 tires and more than 900 mattresses.

A full-time police officer has been assigned to patrol Kinloch and has coordinated with the surrounding police to significantly slow down illegal dumping in this area. STL Partnership also secured $2 million in funding from the state of Missouri to demolish 29 blighted buildings in Kinloch.

In May, Boeing announced a $1 million grant to support ongoing cleanup efforts in Kinloch. That grant will go towards paying for cleanup of approximately 300 tons and 100 acres of trash and debris in the city, as well as covering landfill costs.

The St. Louis County Port Authority and the Lambert Joint Development Commission have also provided funding for this initiative.
