St. Louis City, County Hold Hispanic Flag Ceremonies

Events kick off Hispanic Heritage Month

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, St. Louis City and County both held Hispanic Heritage Flag ceremonies on Sept. 15.

At the City’s event at City Hall, Mayor Cara Spencer announced St. Louis City has become a 2-star Certified Welcoming community. Certified Welcoming is a formal designation by Welcoming America for cities that have created policies and programs that echo its commitment to immigrant inclusion and belonging.

The County’s event, held at Memorial Park in Clayton, was highlighted by speeches from County Executive Sam Page, St. Louis Mosaic Project Executive Director Suzanne Sierra and Hispanic Festival, Inc. Board Member Elisa Bender.

“One of the areas of demographic growth in our region is with the Latino and Hispanic community,” said Sierra during her remarks. “Across St. Louis, Hispanic and Latino families are buying homes and starting businesses. They are becoming intregal parts of the community, strengthening the region and driving growth today.”

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 until Oct. 15.
