Longtime Journalist Charlie Brennan helps Mosaic kick off Welcoming Week with Special Conversation about Belonging

Charlie Brennan, St. Louis Art Museum Director Min Jung Kim headline free Sept. 10 event

The St. Louis Mosaic Project (Mosaic Project) will kick off Welcoming Week on Sept. 10 with a special event featuring a public conversation between longtime radio host Charlie Brennan and Min Jung Kim, the Barbara B. Taylor director of the Saint Louis Art Museum.

This live taping of Mosaic Stories, a monthly video series by the Mosaic Project that pairs long-time St. Louis natives with foreign-born immigrants to share their personal stories, will explore Kim’s journey to St. Louis. This includes the role of arts and culture in creating connection and belonging and what makes a community a place where people from around the world can build lives and put down roots.

The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, from 9–10:30 a.m. in the Education Center at the Saint Louis Art Museum, 1 Fine Arts Drive in Forest Park. It is free and open to the public, but registration is requested .

The event opens St. Louis’ observance of Welcoming Week, Sept. 10–19, an annual initiative of Welcoming America that brings communities together through events and activities designed to deepen connections between immigrants and U.S.-born residents.

This year’s Welcoming Week comes as St. Louis undertakes a broader effort to strengthen how the region welcomes, supports and retains immigrants and international residents. Earlier this year, the City of St. Louis was selected for Gateways for Growth, a competitive national initiative of the American Immigration Council and Welcoming America. The City, the St. Louis Mosaic Project and International Institute of St. Louis are co-leading an initiative that engages employers, community organizations, educational institutions, elected officials and other regional stakeholders in developing a regional welcoming plan to be unveiled in 2027.
