Cohen honored by St. Louis County, City

April 10, 2025 has been proclaimed as Betsy Cohen Day for the St. Louis region. Cohen, who served as executive director of the St. Louis Mosaic Project for 12 years, was honored after stepping down to take on another role in March 14. Dr. Sam Page, St. Louis County Executive, and Gilberto Pinela, director of the Office of New Americans for St. Louis City, attended the St. Louis Mosaic Project Steering Committee meeting on April 10 to bestow the proclamations to Cohen.

Cohen served as the executive director since the founding of the Mosaic Project in 2013. Among the highlights of her tenure was seeing the foreign-born population in the St. Louis region increase from 129,604 in 2022 to 159,710 in 2023. That 23% jump ranked first among the nation’s 30 largest metro areas. The Latino population in the St. Louis region also increased by 14%, which ranked fourth among the largest metro areas in the U.S.

Under the leadership of Suzanne Sierra, the new executive director of the Mosaic Project, the organization’s goal is to keep that top ranking through 2030.
