St. Louis Mosaic Project Executive Director to serve on committee overseeing tax funds that flow to the Missouri Botanical Garden
Betsy Cohen, executive director of the St. Louis Mosaic Project, has been appointed as a county commissioner to the Missouri Botanical Garden Subdistrict. The Subdistrict is part of the Zoological Park and Museum District (ZMD) of the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County. The Subdistrict’s commissioners oversee the tax funds that flow to the Missouri Botanical Garden, including ensuring tax funds are allocated properly. The commissioners are appointed by either St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page or St. Louis City Mayor Tishaura O. Jones.
“The Missouri Botanical Garden is world-class and one of the most impressive destinations in St. Louis,” said Cohen. “I have been a fan of the Garden and as a St. Louis County resident, I always like to think of new ways I can learn more about the region and contribute to it. Serving as a county commissioner for the Garden will help me achieve that.”
Cohen’s term as a county commissioner begins immediately and will last four years.
Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is the nation’s oldest botanical garden in continuous operation and a National Historic Landmark. The Garden, which consists of 79 acres of horticultural display, is a center for botanical research and science education in the city of St. Louis.
