Mosaic Project supports programs essential to connecting local, international women

The St. Louis Mosaic Project’s (Mosaic Project) Women’s Connector Initiative is focused on helping international women find belonging in St. Louis, while offering native St. Louis women an opportunity for cross-cultural learning and mentoring. The International Mentoring St. Louis (IMSTL) and the International Spouses/Expat Women’s Group provide invaluable opportunities for cultural exchange, social connection and empowerment. These programs are essential for helping women from around the world successfully integrate into the St. Louis community.

IMSTL connects international women with local mentors to help them coalesce into the St. Louis community. Through this program, international women are introduced to local resources, customs and attractions. Conversely, mentors are able to gain a deeper understanding of cultures outside their own. The program strengthens the community by building meaningful relationships between local mentors and international women, as well as promoting mutual understanding and respect. Several times a year, cohorts of 10 women are launched, each one matching international women with local women. These pairs are carefully made, with backgrounds and interest kept in mind. Often, these pairings lead to true, meaningful friendship between the different women.

The International Spouses/Expat Women’s Group offers a supportive space for foreign-born women who have relocated to St. Louis with their partners. With a membership in the 900s, representing more than 90 countries, the group helps support women settle into their new lives with other foreign-born women. Members have diverse professional backgrounds and use the group to continue developing skills, practice English and engage in community activities. This network is an essential resource for empowering women, promoting inclusion, and building strong community connections in St. Louis.

Each program exemplifies the St. Louis Mosaic Project’s mission to build a welcoming, thriving community for newcomers and gives locals ample opportunity to meet others with different perspectives, experiences and cultures. Personal and professional opportunities are enhanced for international and U.S.-born women. During Women’s History Month, these initiatives remind us of the ongoing importance of fostering opportunities for women to succeed, regardless of their background.
