The 61st Annual Governor’s Conference on Economic Development was held September 4-6th at the St. Charles Convention Center. Governor Mike Parson shared his plans for stimulating the state’s economy and the importance of the reorganization of state government that was just completed.

More than 500 economic developers and local and state leaders from across Missouri attended the event which is designed to highlight the top issues connected with the creation of new jobs and investments.

Some important topics included Missouri One Start, Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) Regional Delivery Model and workforce development. Leveraging Development Sites, Opportunity and Foreign Trade Zones were also topics of discussion.

The sessions on workforce issues were a major highlight of the event.  Workforce topics of discussion were:  Fasttrack, MOExcels and a program to provide connections to jobs for transitioning services members and their spouses. These workforce policy efforts are now in formation for the upcoming legislative session.

“It was very educational and inspiring! I learned an extensive amount about workforce development efforts also,” said Carmen Wilkerson, Administrative Assistant for the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership.
