Join the World Trade Center St. Louis for Growing Global 2019
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of US-China diplomatic relations, The World Trade Center is focusing this year’s Growing Global event on the next 40 years of international business between the two nations. In the 40 years since establishing US-China diplomatic relations, bilateral trade and investment has grown from $2.3 billion in 1979 to $636 billion in 2017.
Tim Nowak, Executive Director of the World Trade Center St. Louis, expects this year’s Growing Global panel to provide in-depth insights on the legacy and future of US-China commercial engagement. The panel includes Consul General Zhao Jian, the 11th Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago, Jacob Parker, Senior Vice President at the US-China Business Council (who will serve as moderator), and Dave Rank, Senior Advisor at The Cohen Group.
“The audience is going to get a really thought-provoking discussion,” Nowak said. “They’re going to get a perspective from the Chinese Consul General Zhao Jian and a first-hand account from someone who has been living in Beijing and working in leadership at the US embassy (Dave Rank) and has a sense of what the US is trying to do and why they’re trying to do it.”
This is the 21st Growing Global luncheon hosted by the World Trade Center and is the largest international business gathering in St. Louis every year.
Nowak expects business, civic, and elected leadership to be in attendance. He says each Growing Global event always focuses on a relevant topic in business but doesn’t think there’s ever been a more-timely discussion.
“We want the audience to walk away with something,” Nowak said. “This is not a keynote speech – we want the audience to learn something. I think we’ve touched on that in years past, and I assure you, this year now more than any other, we’re going to do just that.”
